  • WHO highlights high cost of physical inactivity in first-ever global report. Almost 500 million people will develop heart disease, obesity, diabetes attributable to physical inactivity, between 2020 and 2030, costing US$27Bn annually, if governments don’t take urgent action to encourage more physical activity among their populations
  • PureGym announces plans for expansion across the Middle East and North Africa. It will open over 20 gyms across the UAE, with the first three gyms set to open in Dubai later this year.
  • Floyd Mayweather’s fitness franchise continues its strong franchise expansion as it acquired KickHouse Fitness, a leading kickboxing franchise system.
  • Princess Cruises signs its first fitness deal with Xponential Fitness – gives access to digital classes on board.
  • The Thai government has just approved 5BN THB ($131M) to further enhance Phuket to be a high-end medical, health and wellness hub to support international working, living, relaxing and retiring.
  • Chinese activewear company Anta overtook international giants like Nike and Adidas to become the top-selling sports company in China – combined annual revenues to exceed 100 billion yuan ($13.82 billion) this year
  • Australian based business Evolt 360, has successfully raised $12m in a capital raise led by Bell Potter Securities, to meet the company’s strong order pipeline
  • Jetts Fitness Australia CEO, Elaine Jobson, has led an MBO to acquire the franchised Jetts Fitness business from parent company Fitness & Lifestyle Group (FLG) – taking control of 129 franchised clubs in AU, as well as international franchise businesses in the UK and the Netherlands.
  • Cult.fit is aiming for an (IPO) in 12-18 months as its core gym business has turned in an operating profit, their revenue has also grown more than 50% compared to pre-Covid-19 levels.
  • Australia ranked as the most desirable wellness tourism destination in the world by Global Wellness Institute’s (GWI) Wellness Tourism Initiative’s survey
  • Wellnex Life raises $6 million, as it moves to be the dominant player in Australia’s new over-the-counter medicinal cannabis market

  • GYM BOD scored a $2 million deal with Coles, Australia by creating High Protein Soft Serves, collagen sticks and protein poles
  • Derrimut 24:7 gym in Winter Gardens becomes South Australia’s largest fitness space following a renovation including a doubling in size of its ladies’ space
  • Emma Masters’s new studio Therapy Fitness opening in Nov 2022 in Gold Coast – A studio that makes members feel good while they are exercising. Moving away from body shaming, towards a positive message for physical & mental health, camaraderie and community.
  • Fernwood Fitness acquires exclusive HYPOXI distributorship for Australia and New Zealand
  • Clean Health confirms partnership with Fitness Playground to be their exclusive live events workshop venue for our NSW students at their two Surry Hills facilities. They also partnered with a cutting-edge group fitness gym franchise Change Labz
  • Life Fitness Australia has launched the new Hammer Strength HD Athletic NX line – the next generation of HD Athletic Racks that can be right sized to fit any space and budget
  • Direct to consumer retailer Love Bonito acquires SG activewear brand Butter
  • Singapore-based HealthTech startup MiyaHealth, which raised additional funds in August, plans to expand its footprint globally, starting with Europe and Asia.

  • BODDY, the European well-tech start-up that recently launched in SG and BKK, just signed a deal with KLOOK, the largest Asian travel platform for in-destination activities.
  • China Mobile’s Migu app has 300 million subscribers and expects 640 million users by the end of 2022. Their fitness channel leverages 5G, AI, Metaverse, and fitness influencers.
  • Tencent-backed Keep Inc, China’s largest online fitness company, renews Hong Kong IPO application, to postpone their IPO listing.
  • Fiture is creating new products and technology, and planning to open 20 more stores in cities of Hangzhou, Nanjing, Tianjin, Chengdu and Chongqing.
  • Pure Group welcomes Kurios, a new curated wellness retail experience to Hong Kong. Integrating shops inside their centres- featuring everything from apparel, skincare products to healing crystals and home fragrances.
  • Ninja Force opened this month in Hong Kong – “The first and biggest outdoor Ninja Warrior Training facility in Hong Kong! Combining challenging obstacles like the American Ninja Warriors & Japan Sasuke TV show.
  • BFT becomes the first Xponential Fitness brand to make a major move in the UK, opening its first studio in England.
    Myzone moves into the metaverse with new Web3 platform partnership with digital health and fitness company, OliveX. Myzone also launch their new feature – MZ-Smart Station is a series of screens that instruct, engage, and inform class participants where to go next.

IC2 PrepHouse is a charity organisation that supports children with low vision to support them through optimal functioning in mainstream schools.
