Dato’ Amir Firdaus Abdullah

Dato’ Amir Firdaus Abdullah is Chairman & Group Managing Director at Aurelius Healthcare.

Driven by his passion for healthcare innovation and excellence, Dato’ Amir is highly regarded as a strategic senior executive in the private healthcare industry. Over the span of his illustrious career todate, Dato’ Amir has consistently demonstrated his leadership acumen by designing clear strategies to leverage market share-expanding opportunities. His unique leadership focus on private healthcare services and administration has made his expertise highly sought after in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Taking on the role of CEO of Hospital Pantai Ampang (Kuala Lumpur) in 2007, the financially stagnant hospital broke even in profitability for the first time in eight years. Through this, Dato’ Amir won investor confidence prior to the Parkway Pantai Limited (PPL) IPO.

Dato’ Amir led the expansion of the Johor and Sabah Gleneagles Hospitals in 2014/2015, generating RM200 million in 2016. He was instrumental in the brownfield acquisition of the Ambulatory Care Centre in Central KL, generating a revenue of RM25 million. He significantly expanded the patient capacity from 240 to 470 beds in Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur. His intuitive grasp of opportunities also won the bid for healthcare services for the Petronas RAPID Project in Johor and steered Gleneagles towards becoming the primary care provider for oil and gas personnel on the East Coast of West Malaysia. Following his career with Gleneagles and Pantai Group, he became the Chief Operating Officer (SEA) and Vice President (Malaysia) of DaVita Kidney Care. As the SEA leader, Dato’ Amir formulated highly specific business plans to develop operations in Indonesia and the Philippines to gain a 26% market share in 2017.

Most recently, Dato’ Amir headed VPS Healthcare and became the Group CEO of Burjeel Hospitals—a multinational healthcare group that oversees 125 medical centres and 23 hospitals across the Middle East, India, and Europe. During his tenure, he was directly responsible for doubling the USD 900 million revenue growth. He played a significant role in preparing the organization for the 2019 public listing on the London Stock Exchange.

In addition 2019, he established Aurelius Healthcare with Navis Capital as the major shareholder. Commencing with the inauguration of Aurelius Hospital Negeri Sembilan in 2021, followed by the establishment of Aurelius Hospital Alor Setar in 2022, and culminating with the recent acquisition of Aurelius Hospital Pahang in 2023, Dato’ Amir envisions a robust expansion strategy for Aurelius Healthcare. His vision encompasses establishing 5-8 hospitals over the next 5 years, solidifying Aurelius Healthcare’s presence in Malaysia, and strategically positioning the company as a significant player in the broader Southeast Asian healthcare landscape. This expansion aligns with Aurelius Healthcare’s growing footprint in the region, which includes six hospitals in Indochina, further strengthening its regional presence and influence.

Dato’ Amir is also a speaker at Beyond Activ World in Singapore.
