Maria Gonzalez

Maria Gonzalez is a proud Colombian-American leader, wellness advocate, and strategic voice in the global fitness industry.

Currently CEO of ClubFitness Greensboro, Maria brings more than two decades of experience building inclusive communities, leading high-impact teams, and forging partnerships that drive sustainable growth. Maria began her journey in the U.S. in 1998, arriving without speaking English a challenge she transformed into a strength through resilience, grit, and a passion for human connection. Maria’s journey began with a background in accounting from the Politécnico Colombiano JIC in Medellín, Colombia. However, her lifelong love for fitness, shaped by her experience as a competitive swimmer and national water polo athlete, ultimately shaped her lifelong belief in movement as medicine and community as a catalyst for change. Since joining ClubFitness in 2001, Maria has risen through the ranks to CEO, where she has led transformational initiatives that blend wellness, innovation, and accessibility. Under her leadership, ClubFitness has become a trusted community hub and a model for culturally relevant, mission-driven fitness.

An international speaker and thought leader, Maria has presented at global forums including ChinaFit (2023 & 2025), SIBEC USA, Fitness Brasil, and Expo Sports Mexico. Her work has been featured on the covers of Club Solutions Magazine, Club Business International (CBI), and Club Insider.
She serves on the Board of Trustees for Cone Health, the Health and Fitness Association Board, the Community Advisory Board of Truist Bank, and other nonprofit and civic organizations, where she champions cross-sector collaboration between fitness, healthcare, and community organizations. Maria is deeply committed to giving back. She was awarded the Leadership Medal by Leadership Greensboro in 2018.
